Tomatoes
There’s no doubt that Italy is the perfect place to grow sweet tomatoes. The weather is generally very hot and dry in the summer months making it perfect for growing these delicious sweet tomatoes that the Italians truly cherish.
We've partnered with several small local, organic farmers. It takes two pounds of fresh tomatoes to make one jar of jovial tomatoes so we need a few hundred acres for growing. Plus, we need more land for our 5-year rotation cycle, which is necessary for organic farming and one of the reasons why organic tomatoes taste so much better.
Each farm is just a few acres in size and family owned. They are located close to the canning facility because ripe organic tomatoes won’t maintain their sweet, delicious flavor if they have to travel long distances. Normally, tomatoes are transported by the truckload, but we pack our tomatoes in crates because we know small scale production is always better and eliminates the need for corrective additives.
Some of our tomato farms have been in the same family for centuries. These farmers have treated the Earth with care and the farming is both organic and biodynamic. You may not think about the farmers growing your tomatoes when you open a jar of jovial tomatoes, but we can assure you that they are very grateful for your loyalty and support.
